Apps that want nothing from you.

IronWillow builds small Android apps with no account, no connection, no adverts and nothing to buy. The current one is Lullwave: five quiet toys that answer your fingertip and ask for nothing back.

THE STUDIO

The hardest thing to ship is an app with no hook in it

Calm apps are usually calm only on the surface. Underneath sits the same machinery as everything else: a streak to protect, a nightly reminder, a subscription that unlocks the nicer colours, a weekly report on how well you relaxed. The genre spends its whole design budget building reasons to come back, which is the opposite of what the person opening it actually needs.

Lullwave has no streak, no reminder, no progress, no subscription and nothing to unlock. Open it, touch the glass, close it, forget it exists for a fortnight. If it does not cross your mind until the next time you need it, it is working exactly as intended.

No notifications of any kind. The app has no permission to send one and nothing it would want to say.

THE APP
Lullwave

a quiet place for your hands and eyes

Press your thumb to the glass and let the noise fade. Lullwave is a pocket-sized bundle of anti-stress toys — no goals, no scores, nothing to work out. Touch the screen and it answers with soft ripples, blooming colour, drifting particles and gentle waves that follow your fingertip, the way running a hand through sand does.

Drift between scenes whenever you like, dim the whole thing down for a bedtime wind-down, and let the motion do the rest. Every toy responds instantly and smoothly, with soft haptic feedback, so a bad minute turns into a minute of gentle play.

Still waterripples spreading from every touch
Slow bloomflowers of light where you tap
Particle trailglow that follows your finger
Soft wavesswaying back and forth
Tender bubblespopped one at a time

One ripple, and why it takes so long to die

Tap the pool and you get a single ring — not a scene, not a toy, just one ripple with its numbers exposed. Move the two dials and you can feel the difference between motion that soothes and motion that nags. This is the craft underneath the app, not the app.

A ring that fades over a second and a half, thinning as it goes, reads as water. The same ring at a quarter of a second reads as a button press — same shape, entirely different nervous system response.

One ring at a time, one colour, no scenes, no particles, no bubbles and nothing saved — you cannot settle into this. Lullwave is five finished toys with their own feel, a dimmer for the evening, and haptics that make the glass answer back.
